One of the programs The Art Institute of Washington DC offers is a private, for-profit culinary program with the following degrees teaching real-world skills with hands-on experience:
Baking & Pastry - Associate in Arts: Concentration on baking and pastry - become a pastry artist in this program which offers courses on baking and operations management.
Culinary Arts - Associate in Arts: learn the basics first, then focus on specialty areas like baking and pastry, garde manger, and a la carte.
Other Programs - Include Wine, Spirits and Beverage Management and Bachelor of Science in Food Management and Bachelor of Science in Culinary Arts Management.

L'Academie de Cuisine

L'Academie de Cuisine - Gaithersburg location for Professional Program
L'Academie de Cuisine offers professional and recreation training in Gaithersburg, MD (suburb of Washington DC).
The profession program consists of three phases:
- Phase 1: Classroom Study and Kitchen Basics (Daytime: 12 weeks, Evening: 18 weeks)
- Phase 2: Advanced Kitchen Training (Daytime: 12 weeks, Evening: 18 weeks)
- Phase 3: The Externship (26 weeks): Studnets will work with professional chefs on the line of a fine-dining establishment. The chef advisors work evaluate student performance to provide invaluable professional experience and guidance.
While working a minimum of 35 hours a week, students classroom study for approximately six months. Externships are paid positions by employer.
The recreational program, located in Bethesda, MD, offers recreational classes designed for home cooks and foodies. L'Academie's recreational program has both recreational and participation formats.

Culinary Schools Washington DC includes Lincoln Culinary, located approximately 30 miles to DC. The Culinary School is part of Lincoln College of Technology since l946. The Culinary Arts Program features a very broad curriculum -- good if you haven't decided on your favorite cuisine. It also trains in management skills.
