The Art Institutes of California - San Francisco offers the following programs which teach real world skills with hands-on experience.

Baking & Pastry - Associate of Science: become a pastry artist in this program which offers courses on baking and operations management

Culinary Arts - Associate of Science: learn the basics first, then focus on specialty areas like baking and pastry, garde manger, and a la carte.

Art of Cooking - Diploma: learn cooking skills, baking and pastry, and American regional cuisine with an emphasis on plating and presentation

Baking & Pastry - Diploma: focuses on the art and preparation of breads, cookies, pies, desserts and baked goods.

Bay Area Culinary Schools

South of San Francisco down the Peninsula are Culinary Schools in the Bay Area, often referred to as Silicon Valley.  Here are two of the best in this exciting location for culinary and California lifestyle in general.

French Culinary Institute

The French Culinary Institute's International Culinary Center of California (Previously Professional Culinary Institute in this location.) Located in the Bay Area and Silicon Valley.

The famous French Culinary Institute is now located an hour from San Francisco in Silicon Valley. An area of beautiful climate, warmer than San Francisco's often foggy weather, tech companies, and sprawling suburban neighborhoods.  

This is a great base to visit the beaches of the Pacific Ocean (less than an hour away), Monterey (45 minutes), Lake Tahoe (approx. 4 hours), and so much more to keep you busy enjoying life in your off hours from pursuing your culinary career. 

The programs are very intensive but the 600 hours can be completed in six months full-time and nine months evening. 

Programs offered are:

  • Classic Culinary Arts
  • Classic Pastry Arts
  • Intensive Sommelier Training 

Other courses offered: School of Food Journalism, Luxury Estate Management, Techniques of Cake and Design, and Italian Studies.

Art Institutes Sunnyvale

Another Culinary school in the Bay Area-Silicon Valley location. Sunnyvale is the ideal location in a suburban neighborhood to enjoy a California lifestyle and warm, sunny climate.  It is in the heart of the tech industry in California. 

The Art Institutes offers the following programs in Sunnyvale:

  • Culinary Management - Bachelor of Science

On the quarterly system and requires 90 quarter credits for degree. Programs include general education courses as well as culinary and prepare you for entry level culinary positions.
